New Jersey's Minimum Wage to Increase to $15.92 on January 1, 2026 |
Statewide wage hike aims to support workers amid rising living costs |
Starting January 1, 2026, New Jersey's minimum wage will rise by 43 cents, reaching $15.92 per hour for most employees.
This adjustment reflects the state's commitment to aligning wages with the cost of living.
For employees of seasonal businesses and small employers (those with fewer than six employees), the minimum wage will increase to $15.23 per hour, up from $14.53.
These groups are on a gradual path to reach parity with the standard minimum wage by 2028.
Agricultural workers will see their hourly wage rise to $14.20, an 80-cent increase from the previous rate.
Their wages are set to match the standard minimum by 2030.
Tipped employees will experience a cash wage increase to $6.05 per hour.
Employers are required to ensure that, when combined with tips, workers earn at least the full minimum wage of $15.92 per hour.
Long-term care facility direct care staff will see their minimum hourly wage rise to $18.92.
New Jersey's Department of Labor and Workforce Development determines these annual adjustments based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), ensuring wages keep pace with inflation.
Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo emphasized the importance of these increases, stating, "This increase will provide vital support to all Garden State workers by making the dream of a livable wage reality."
Employers across the state are encouraged to review their payroll systems to comply with the new wage standards.
Staying informed about these changes is crucial to ensure fair compensation and adherence to state labor laws. |
