Maplewood's 4th of July festivities kicked off with the annual 5K Run Through Maplewood at 8 a.m., drawing runners and walkers eager to support the Columbia High School Track & Field and Cross Country programs.
Participants navigated the semi-hilly course through the town's picturesque streets, with the first 220 registrants receiving commemorative T-shirts.
Following the race, the community gathered for a vibrant bike parade starting at Ricalton Square at 10 a.m.
Children
adorned their bicycles with patriotic decorations, riding together to Memorial Park North, where refreshments awaited.
At 10:30 a.m., young athletes aged 2 to 13 participated in the Kids Fun Run, an event sponsored by the SOMA Fox Running Club.
The day continued with an adult softball game at noon in Memorial Park North, inviting residents 18 and older to join in friendly competition.
Afternoon activities at the Maplewood Community Center included a lively bingo session at 1:30 p.m., followed by a pet parade at 3 p.m.
Pet owners showcased their furry friends dressed in red, white, and blue, celebrating the day's theme.
At 4 p.m., the community indulged in an ice cream eating contest, a sweet highlight sponsored by the Maplewood Rotary Club.
As evening approached, residents gathered at Memorial Park South for the grand finale.
Starting at 7:30 p.m., DJ Jimmy energized the crowd with music, leading up to the spectacular fireworks display at 9 p.m.
Mayor Vic De Luca addressed the crowd, reflecting on the nation's 250th anniversary.
He emphasized the ongoing journey toward equality and justice, urging the community to continue striving for a more perfect union.
