Big excitement is heading close to Maplewood, NJ, and soccer fans have a lot to look forward to. The 2026 FIFA World Cup is coming to nearby East Rutherford, and the Maplewood community is getting ready to celebrate in a big way.

This summer, MetLife Stadium will host eight World Cup matches, including the championship game on July 19, 2026. More than one million visitors are expected to travel to the New York–New Jersey area, making this one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

The City of Maplewood is already planning exciting ways for residents and visitors to join the fun. Mayor De Luca shared that the countdown has officially begun and the town hopes to create special events that bring the community together.

Plans include watch parties, World Cup-themed activities, youth soccer events, and special programs throughout town. Families can also look forward to soccer-themed movies in local parks, family fun days, and activities at summer camps and the town pool.

The fun does not stop there. The Maplewood Memorial Library plans to host themed book readings, while the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center may feature special art displays connected to the global event.

Maplewood's local restaurants are also preparing to join the celebration. Visitors may soon see special World Cup-inspired menu items featuring flavors from countries around the world. With Maplewood known for its strong local food scene, this could become a tasty way for the community to celebrate international culture.
