Community gathering space in Maplewood Shout Outs |
Learn how the Maplewood Village Alliance and Maplewood community gathering bring new life to local spaces |
The Maplewood Village Alliance is transforming the corner of Maplewood Avenue and Baker Street into a vibrant community gathering space known as Baker Square.
Recent enhancements include the removal of invasive plants and the addition of brick pavers, expanding and improving the area commonly referred to as "the ice cream benches."
Executive Director Cat Delett shared, "Our vision is to take this underutilized space and turn it into a community gathering spot with room for programming, meet-ups, and more."
The MVA has allocated a significant portion of its 2023 beautification budget to complete the hardscaping, demonstrating a strong commitment to the project's success.
To further enhance Baker Square, the MVA is seeking community support through donations.
Contributions will fund sustainable plantings and attractive seating, including four backless benches designed to promote gathering and programming.
Delett emphasized, "Your donations will help us take the project to the next level, with appropriate and sustainable plantings, and usable, attractive seating."
Every contribution counts, with even small donations making a significant impact when the community comes together. For those interested in supporting the project, donations can be made by adding a note stating it is for Baker Square.
Additionally, the MVA offers the opportunity to dedicate a bench in honor of a loved one or organization, complete with a bronze plaque.
