Essex County's Holiday Season Sparkles with Community Spirit

As the crisp autumn air gives way to winter's chill, Essex County transforms into a hub of holiday cheer, offering a variety of events that showcase the community's vibrant spirit.

 

In West Orange, the annual Holiday Lights Spectacular at Essex County Turtle Back Zoo illuminates the nights from November 22 through December 31. Visitors can stroll through the zoo adorned with over a million twinkling lights and 50 festive figures, creating a magical experience for families. Admission is free, though donations of non-perishable food items, new unwrapped toys, or gently used winter coats are appreciated to support those in need.

 

Over in Caldwell, the Holiday Play Village Toy Drive invites families to the Blue Rose Venue on November 29 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. This indoor event features six themed holiday villages, each offering free children's activities hosted by local businesses. Admission is free with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy per child, fostering a spirit of giving within the community.

On November 11, adults can participate in a Holiday Wreath Making workshop, crafting festive decorations using evergreen boughs and other materials. Families can enjoy a Hot Chocolate and S'mores Hike on November 16, combining a nature walk with cozy treats around a campfire.

 

In Newark, the  New Jersey Performing Arts Center hosts a lineup of performances to delight audiences. Highlights include the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition on November 23, showcasing rising jazz talents, and a special performance of A Christmas Carol on December 10, bringing the classic holiday tale to life.

 

Meanwhile, Montclair continues to be a cultural hotspot with events like the Holiday Makeup Class on December 10, offering seasonal beauty tips from a celebrity makeup artist, and the Booked for the Evening Anniversary Gala on December 2, celebrating the city's literary spirit through storytelling and community engagement.
