Juneteenth celebration and community events in Maplewood Shout Outs

Featuring a FIFA World Cup watch party and a vibrant community drum circle

Maplewood's Juneteenth celebrations on June 19, 2026, offered a rich tapestry of cultural events, uniting the community in reflection and festivity.

The day commenced at the Durand-Hedden House & Garden, where attendees engaged with historical reenactors, enjoyed musical performances, and explored an art exhibit. Children participated in face painting and crafts, while the exhibit "Slavery in New Jersey: A Troubled History" provided profound historical context.

Later, the festivities transitioned to  Memorial Park for the 2026 MAPSO Juneteenth event. The evening featured performances by the Jeanne Ricks Project and tap artist Maurice Chestnut. Attendees also participated in a community drum circle, fostering unity through rhythm.

Adding to the excitement, a FIFA World Cup watch party was held, allowing soccer enthusiasts to cheer for their teams on a large screen, blending global sportsmanship with local celebration.
