Maplewood Township Committee Opportunities in Maplewood Shout Outs

Exploring township committee candidates maplewood and the maplewood democratic primary

The upcoming Maplewood Democratic primary on June 2 has drawn significant attention, with three candidates competing for two seats on the Township Committee. The contenders are current Mayor Vic De Luca, John T. Sullivan—a Planning Board member and active participant in the Hilton Neighborhood Association—and Martin Ceperley, known for his involvement with the Green Team and the local "Bike Bus" initiative. Notably, no Republican candidates have filed to run in this election.

The Maplewood Democratic Committee has been proactive in engaging the community ahead of the primary. They hosted a public information session on February 19, 2025, to educate potential candidates about the election process and the responsibilities associated with serving on the Township Committee. This session was part of a broader effort to encourage civic participation and ensure that residents are well-informed about their voting options. Additionally, the Committee organized a public candidate forum on March 10, 2025, providing a platform for the community to hear directly from the candidates and ask pertinent questions. These initiatives underscore the Committee's commitment to transparency and community involvement in the electoral process.

In the lead-up to the primary, candidates have been actively engaging with residents through various events. Martin Ceperley hosted a campaign kickoff on April 12 at Artie's on Newark Way, offering constituents an opportunity to discuss his vision for Maplewood. Similarly, John T. Sullivan held an event on April 22 at Pallet Brewing Company, where he emphasized his dedication to community outreach, transparency, and accountability. During his address, Sullivan highlighted his extensive involvement in local organizations and his commitment to advocating for the rights of all residents, regardless of background. He also outlined plans to support local businesses, improve traffic safety, and protect green spaces within the township.

As the primary date approaches,  Maplewood residents are encouraged to participate actively in the democratic process. The Maplewood Democratic Committee continues to provide resources and information to ensure that voters are well-prepared to make informed decisions. This election presents an opportunity for the community to shape the future of the township by selecting leaders who align with their values and vision for Maplewood.
