The second annual SOMA Swish fundraiser took place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Columbia High School's gymnasium, drawing a crowd of over 2,500 attendees.
This community-driven event aims to support elementary school PTAs across the South Orange-Maplewood School District.
Initiated in 2024 as a friendly competition between Seth Boyden and Clinton Elementary, SOMA Swish expanded in 2025 to include all six district elementary schools.
The tournament has since become a cornerstone of Maplewood school events, fostering unity and raising essential funds for student programs.
This year's nearly sold-out triple-header featured three two-hour matches, bringing together parents, caregivers, students, staff, and alumni.
The overwhelming turnout underscores the strong community spirit within the district.
Organizers expressed deep gratitude to sponsors, student volunteers from local middle and high schools, and all attendees for their contributions to the event's success.
The funds raised will directly benefit programming and initiatives at each participating school, ensuring an enriched educational experience for all students.
As the SOMA Swish continues to grow, it stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a community unites in support of its schools. |
