Highlighting Columbia High School track at this annual celebration

The annual St. Patrick's Day 5K took place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Maplewood, New Jersey.

This event, benefiting the Columbia High School Cross Country and Track & Field teams, commenced and concluded near the Maplewood Civic House on Dunnell Road.

Participants braved the chilly weather, with temperatures hovering around 3.1°C (37.6°F), to support the student athletes.

The race attracted a diverse group of runners and walkers, all eager to contribute to the school's athletic programs.

Funds raised from the event are allocated for essential needs such as equipment, uniforms, and entry fees to national competitions.

In the men's category, Pablo Kohan, 44, of Maplewood, clinched first place with a time of 16 minutes and 31 seconds.

He was closely followed by Matthew Lawder, 37, of South Orange, who finished in 16 minutes and 46 seconds, and Julius Marshall, 17, also of South Orange, completing the race in 17 minutes and 51 seconds.

On the women's side, Kate Babcock, 46, of Maplewood, emerged as the top finisher, placing fifth overall with a time of 19 minutes and 3 seconds.

She was followed by Madison Gargiulo, 19, of Landing, who finished in 21 minutes and 11 seconds, and 14-year-old Niko Reese of Maplewood, completing the race in 21 minutes and 55 seconds.

The success of the St. Patrick's Day 5K underscores the community's commitment to supporting local student athletes and promoting fitness through engaging events.
