Nette Forné Thomas, an acclaimed artist based in Maplewood, has received the 2026 Individual Artist Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
This notable award celebrates Thomas’s impact on the arts and will further support her innovative work in mixed media.
Originally from Belleville, Thomas found solace and friendships in art from a young age, especially as one of the only Black students in her classes.
Her fascination with the human form grew during her studies at Pratt Institute, where she developed a signature technique: etching lace-like patterns into Plexiglas overlays on her paintings.
In addition to her personal creations, Thomas serves as a curator at the 1978 Maplewood Arts Center, championing Black artists and organizing impactful community exhibitions.
Her passion and commitment continue to inspire Maplewood’s vibrant art scene. Read More... |
