In Maplewood, New Jersey, local news is most useful when it explains changes residents can see and feel close to home.

A new storefront in Maplewood Village, a proposal along Springfield Avenue, or a change near Maplewood station can affect daily routines.

Clear reporting connects those developments to the decisions behind them and helps neighbors understand what may happen next.

It also makes room for the quieter moments that give the town its character, from gatherings at Memorial Park to school conversations and acts of kindness.

Not every important story comes with a big announcement.

Steady local coverage helps residents follow questions about transportation, development, services, and shared spaces without getting lost in the noise.

Readers seeking fuller access can subscribe, while current subscribers can sign in to keep up with developing stories.

When neighbors know what is changing and why, they can take part in the conversations shaping Maplewood.

This Week's Weather

Maplewood

Maplewood’s forecast brings a warm start and a cooler finish! Wednesday reaches 73°F after morning fog clears. Showers arrive Thursday, followed by rain Friday, so keep an umbrella handy. Saturday brings a mix of clouds and sunshine, with a high of 65°F and a chilly overnight low of 43°F.

The Achieve Foundation has awarded $34,258 to 26 teacher-led projects across the South Orange Maplewood School District, bringing new learning opportunities to local classrooms.

At Seth Boyden, grants will support early reading and emotional regulation, while Maplewood Middle School students will explore mentoring, hands-on activities and a cardboard arcade.

Pollock Arts Initiative support will bring a Dance Theatre of Harlem master class to select middle school dance students, and Clinton Elementary will add xylophones.

Columbia High School projects span robotics, fashion design, engineering, government studies and college and career readiness.

Other grants will strengthen current-events lessons at South Orange Middle School, support circle keepers at South Mountain and expand shared reading at Tuscan.

Funded by community donations and local business sponsors, the grants reflect ideas developed by educators for their students.

Applications for the next Deborah Prinz grant cycle open November 23, 2026.

In Maplewood, local news helps residents understand decisions that shape everyday life.

A proposal along Springfield Avenue or a change to public space can affect commutes, small businesses, and places neighbors love.

From Maplewood Village to Memorial Park, each part of town has its own concerns, but those concerns often connect.

Clear coverage makes those connections easier to see, even when work, school, and family leave little time to keep up.

A local news subscription lets readers follow an issue beyond the first headline and understand what happens next.

For longtime residents, that can bring fresh context to familiar debates; for newcomers, it can make the town feel less unfamiliar.

Staying informed will not settle every disagreement, but it can make community conversations more useful.

In Maplewood and South Orange, two incumbents and a newcomer led the race for three seats on the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education.

With 96.97% of districts reporting, Liz Callahan led with 9,813 votes, followed by Will Meyer with 8,404 and Kevin Diaz with 8,200.

Trish Azeez was fourth with 6,961 votes, leaving Diaz ahead in the contest for the final seat.

The figures were not yet a final tally, so residents still had reason to watch for the completed count.

Callahan, the board’s first vice president, and Meyer, its president, could return alongside Diaz, bringing a new voice to decisions affecting district students and families.

In other local races, Mayor Victor De Luca won a tenth Township Committee term, John Sullivan won his first, and former Deputy Mayor Deb Engel won an at-large Essex County commissioner seat.

All three ran unopposed in the general election.

Quote Of The Day

“A town becomes memorable not by how loudly it speaks, but by how faithfully it keeps its light.”

A pet portrait can capture the familiar expression and personality that make an animal part of the family.

This November, photographer Julia Maloof Verderosa will offer seasonal portrait sessions at Pet Wants SOMA, 63 South Orange Avenue, in time for holiday cards and gifts.

Appointments are scheduled for Sunday, November 15, and Sunday, November 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All pets are welcome, and owners of sensitive or reactive animals can contact Verderosa beforehand to discuss accommodations.

A percentage of sales will benefit Rescue Haven Foundation, which helps rescue, heal and find homes for animals in need.

Gift certificates are available for anyone who would rather let a pet owner choose when to schedule a session.

Sunday parking is free in South Orange, with a covered garage behind the shop accessible from Taylor Place.

Contact Verderosa for booking details and availability.
